Me and Chela (my fiancee) have gone on a bit of a coupon spree the last few months. I had no idea how much you could save by clipping coupons, searching for online discounts, comparing prices, haggling with salespeople and generally being more bargain conscious overall.

Which leads me to an important point – money will not fix your money problems. Don’t think that once you have more money you’ll spend any less than you do right now. You’re spending on a percentage. Right now how much of your money are you spendng and how much are you saving? If you’re spending all or most of your money (like most normal people are) that won’t change no matter how much money you’re making.

If you can find a way to spend $24,000 a year then you can find a way to spend $250,000 a year. (I know, my mom and dad have made $250,000 in network marketing before and they found creative ways to spend it all.) So be wise with your money. Here are a few tips for beginner bargain hunters:

  1. Search Google for Coupons, Discunts and Promotions
  2. Shop Around
  3. Ask if the Store Does “Price Matching”
  4. Walk Away if You Aren’t Satisfied
  5. Shop Online (Even With Shipping You May Pay Significantly Less)

Quick Testimony – Chela and I just decided on my wedding band. At first we found the ring I liked at a physical store in the mall. The ring was $795 before tax. We went to another store and found the same ring for $750. That’s $45 cheaper. We still weren’t happy so we researched the ring online. We found the same ring for $610 online. We then searched Google for any coupons or discounts for this online store. We found a 15% off coupon and we got an additional 2% off for doing a bank wire transfer instead of a credit card.

This brings the total to $506.30. Now, of course, we have to pay shipping and tax but look at the results from where we started! We found the exact same ring for $288.70 less! Wow!
